Question 1

Do I need to register in every US state?

Accepted Answer

This depends on where your customers are, your volume of sales, and specific state requirements. We'll help determine where sales tax registration is necessary.

Question 2

I'm not based in the US. Do I still need to register for sales tax?

Accepted Answer

If you're selling to US customers, you probably do. Even international businesses can have sales tax obligations depending on where their customers are. Our sales tax registration packages are designed for both US and foreign sellers to remove the guesswork.

Question 3

How long does registration take?

Accepted Answer

It varies by state, but it generally takes a couple of weeks. With the top timeline in the industry, count on RJM to complete the process as quickly as possible.

Question 4

Should I wait to register for sales tax until I am actively selling online?

Accepted Answer

In most cases, it's better to begin the sales tax registration process while you are still setting up your online shop. That way, you'll be fully compliant when you make your first sale.

Question 5

What should I do with my sales tax permits if I am no longer in business?

Accepted Answer

It's advisable to close all of your sales tax accounts if you are no longer selling. If you simply stop submitting your returns and keep your accounts open, you will acquire large sums of tax delinquencies, which are then difficult to clear up. We provide an account closure service where we can assist you with closing all of your accounts efficiently.
